Ten literary itineraries around Barcelona, from April to July

The Biblioteques de Barcelona initiative proposes itineraries inspired by novels set in the city

The Barcelona libraries consortium Biblioteques de Barcelona, in conjunction with Conèixer BCN, has programmed a literary itinerary every Saturday morning for three months beginning on the 5th of April.

The programme begins with Montalbán a Vallvidrera, an ideal place to “escape from the city but not too far”, as the Raval-born author described it. The following weekend, on Saturday the 12th, Xavier Benguerel invites us for a stroll around Poblenou, where he lived until he was forced into exile. The itinerary around the Sarrià district, which evokes the figure of the poet Joan Vinyoli in his centenary year, will be held twice, on the 26th of April and the 17th of May. George Orwell and his Homage to Catalonia are the protagonists of the tour of the Gothic quarter on the 3rd of May, while Ramona, goodbye, by Montserrat Roig, will set out from the Liceu on the 10th of May. Saturday the 24th of May sees the turn of the Horta district with a resonant literary perusal of its streets and personalities.

On Saturday the 13th of May, Xocolata i literatura, un passeig golafre per a grans i petits (Chocolate and literature, a sweet-toothed stroll for the young and old alike) proposes a secret combination itinerary around the city centre. The series closes with the Jaume Cabré tour Señoría in the Gothic quarter (14th of June), Pere Calders and the Sant Antoni district (28th of June) and the El Carmel district’s Last Evenings with Teresa, by Juan Marsé (5th of July).

The itineraries run from 10am to 12.30pm and bookings may be made in the Biblioteca Xavier Benguerel. The price is 9 euros per itinerary for holders of a Biblioteques library card.
