Sócrates, juicio y muerte de un ciudadano

The Trial of Socrates at Teatre Romea

Josep Maria Pou is playing the Greek philosopher again in a renowned staging by Mario Gas, which has now been extended to 23 April

“Sócrates. Juicio y muerte de un ciudadano” was one of the biggest hits of the 2015/2016 season at Teatre Romea. Written and directed by Mario Gas, with the collaboration of Alberto Iglesias, the play reconstructs one of the most tragic episodes in the history of Greek civilization: the trial of Socrates, who was accused of propagating false ideas about the gods and of corrupting the youth of 5th century BC Athens. Following a Spanish tour, the play is now back at Teatre Romea for a little over two months, before saying its final goodbye.

Played by a splendid Josep Maria Pou, “Sócrates. Juicio y muerte de un ciudadano” is a dramatic reconstruction of Socrates’ trial and a reflection on a set of values that seem both important and relevant to us concerning truth and its value, intelligence and its proper use and the limits of morality and the importance of remaining true to ones ideas.

“Sócrates. Juicio y muerte de un ciudadano” is an expression of pure stagecraft with an excellent scripts and top class actors. It can be seen only until 23 April. Additional information is available from the Teatre Romea website.
