‘Turandot’, Puccini’s epic opera, in concert form at L’Auditori

The Symphony Orchestra of Barcelona (OBC) is closing its season before heading to Japan with conductor Kazushi Ono.

The Symphony Orchestra of Barcelona and National Orchestra of Catalonia is closing its season this May just before spending the month of June touring Japan. Conductor Kazushi Ono will accompany them on their adventure, where they will offer a range of shows which have previously been at L’Auditori, such as The Three-Cornered Hat by Falla and Beethoven’s Novena. But first they will perform, in concert form, one of the pieces that will travel to Japan, which stands out for its epic quality: Turandot, the last opera that Giacomo Puccini wrote. It recounts the life of princess Turandot, cold as ice, who does not want to feel or speak of love since she has lost the challenge that the Prince of Persia set. Nonetheless, she still has one chance to avoid falling into his arms: she orders the inhabitants of Beijing not to sleep until they discover the prince’s real name. This composition contains the most famous aria in the history of opera, Nessun Dorma, which ends with the epic cry “All’alba vincerò!”

This concert stands out for the large number of performers onstage. In addition to the OBC, there will be almost a dozen soloist singers, including names like Jennifer Wilson, Simon O’Neill, Carmen Solís and Rubén Amoretti, among others. Plus, the Madrigal Choir and Friends of the Union Children’s Choir will also perform in what promises to be a magnificent show you can enjoy on three different nights, the 24th, 25th and 26th of May at 8:30 pm, 7 pm and 11 am, respectively. It will be at the L’Auditori, one of the few venues up to the occasion.

Tickets are on sale for between 10 and 58 euros, depending on the day and the seats. You can buy them on L’Auditori website.
