Monastery of Pedralbes

Vespres Musicals are back at the Monastery of Pedralbes

Music from different parts of the world and historical periods every Thursday in July in a unique setting.

As many of you know, the Monastery of Pedralbes is one of the most peaceful spots in the city. It is the perfect place to stroll around, look at the different areas and learn about a very important chapter in Barcelona’s history. In the summertime, its grounds host the Vespres Musicals (Musical Evenings), featuring tunes from different styles, origins and historical periods which are sure to spirit you away to a different place and time.

The concerts will be held from 4 to 25 July, every Thursday of the month, starting at 9 pm. The Monastery of Pedralbes will host four very special performances. The first one will be ‟El Takhit”, in which the Newe Ensemble will perform pieces from the Sufi and Arab tradition, with a special emphasis on mystical and meditative works. The next Thursday, 11 July, will be the concert entitled “De la tradició a la improvisació”(From Tradition to Improvisation) featuring an ensemble led by Ferran Savall; they will perform Catalan and Mediterranean musical traditions, as well as vocal and instrumental improvisations. On 18 July, Schola Antiqua will perform ‟Laudemus Virginem”, with polyphonic works from Spanish and Catalan manuscripts from the ars antiqua and ars nova (12th-14th centuries), along with pieces from the Codex Las Huelgas (ca. 1300), the Llibre vermell of Montserrat (14th-15th centuries) and the Ms. 1 manuscript conserved at the Orfeó Català (ca. 1300). To conclude the series, on 25 July the pianist Emili Brugalla and the rhapsodist Enric Arquimbau will come to the monastery to present the concert entitled ‟Música callada” (Silent Music) with pieces by Frederic Mompou.

Tickets for each concert cost 12 euros. You can find complete information and the link to purchase tickets on the Monastery of Pedralbes website.
