Is victory possible for Catalonia?
On the 2nd of September, in the BARTS, Toni Soler and Albert Sánchez Piñol will revisit the Catalonia of 1714 in an attempt to unlock the door to the country’s political future
Instint is a series of conferences presided over by Andreu Buenafuente, Albert Om and The Project. The series has already held a number of events and is an attempt to propose a new model of ‘chat’ in which entertainment and knowledge go hand in hand. Two characters face each other on the stage, and one of them is invited to explain certain aspects of his/her profession by the other, a renowned journalist.
To date, on the BARTS stage, Instint has managed to bring together pairings such as Ferran Adriá and Andreu Buenafuente, Jordi Évole and Ana Pastor, Teresa Forcades and Albert Om and Risto Mejide and José Corbacho.
The evening of the 2nd of September in the BARTS will see the turn of journalist Toni Soler and writer Albert Sánchez Piñol, coinciding with the commemorative acts for the tercentenary of 1714 the siege of Barcelona. The writer’s latest novel, the critically acclaimed Victus, is an in-depth recreation of the facts surrounding the Spanish War of Succession. The journalist, on the other hand, who is well known for his guiding role on the television programme, Polonia, is the occasional author of books such as Història de Catalunya (Modestia apart), or, in English, The History of Catalonia (Modesty aside).
On the basis of the question proffered by the title of the event, 1714-2014: Els catalans sabem guanyar? (Is victory possible for Catalonia?), Soler invites Sánchez Piñol to an Instint programme in which the two will discuss the siege and fall of Barcelona at the hands of Philip V of Spain and the current state of Catalonia. The discussion is open to the public, who are invited to ask their own questions.
