The world of visual and special effects, in b'Ars

The second edition of the Barcelona International Arts and VFX Fair will be held in the Convent dels Àngels from the 11th to the 14th of June

The international fair of arts and visual effects for film, television and videogames (b'Ars) will present its second edition in the Convent dels Àngels from the 11th to the 14th of June in an effort to consolidate its position in the sector. The fair will be divided into two well-defined sectors, one directed at industry professionals and students which will feature conferences, master classes, a job fair and an exhibition area, the other directed at the general public and which will feature an Open Day, among other activities.

This Open Day will take place on Sunday the 14th and will include conferences of a more generalised nature, activities, children's workshops, presentations by visual effects schools and an exhibition area, one of the highlights being the presentation directed at children by Alessandro Jacomini in which he will discuss his most recent project, Big Hero 6, and his animated short film Frozen Fever, the sequel to Frozen, in which he recreates Princess Anna's birthday. The open day will also feature calligraphy, stop-motion and virtual reality workshops.

This year's fair will also include an exhibition by Grangel Studio in honour of its 25th anniversary. The Barcelona-based studio has collaborated in the creation and design of around two dozen animated films and will exhibit a selection of pieces created for the Tim Burton film The Corpse Bride.

With regard to activities directed at professionals, these will include a series of conferences, including one presented by Victor Navone, a Pixar factory animation star whose work includes Toy Story 3, Brave and The Incredibles, another by Christian Alzmann, a character designer for films such as The War of the Worlds and A.I. Artificial Intelligence, and another by Tom Reed, the man behind the complex design of Groot, one of the characters in the recent Guardians of the Galaxy. For its part, the two-day Job Fair will provide a space in which companies can meet with local talent. b'Ars will also feature a series of additional professional meeting areas and parallel activities such as drawing and sculpting sessions.
