A grand week of classical music at Barcelona’s civic centres

From 13 to 18 November, different centres in Barcelona will host small chamber orchestra concerts featuring little-known musical marvels.

This week there is a common thread that brings together the programming at different civic centres in the city: classical music. This was not premeditated, but it is a happy coincidence that will allow you, if you want, and have enough free time, to enjoy five small-format concerts featuring young musicians that will reveal little-known aspects of nineteenth and twentieth century music. Everything starts on 13 November at the Casa Elizalde cultural center, with a concert in the Clàssics i no tant Clàssics cycle in which Marta Bonet (soprano) and Imma Trepat (piano) will play part of the repertoire that Clara Schumann wrote for her friend Pauline Viardot, one of the great achievements in the annals of music written by women.

That concert will be followed by four more: at Centre Cívic Urgell on 16 November with Quartet Orphir playing works by Haydn and Bartok; on 17 November at Centre Cívic Pere Pruna with ‘Cançons secretes’, a selection of 19th century Catalan songs written by women played by Teresa Garrigosa (soprano) and Carme Talleda (piano), while, on the same day, there will be a concert-performance on the life of Érik Satie at Centre Cívic Fort Pienc. Finally, on 18 November, the església de Sant Martí de Provençals will host a performance of religious music by Tente en el Aire.

All of these concerts are free though registration is required.
