The fair’s 23rd edition is set to begin and will be crammed with comics, cartoons and all kinds of Japanese pop culture.
The Barcelona International Manga Fair is one of the most keenly awaited events in the year for the city’s young people and by any of the many obsessive fans of Japanese pop culture. The fair has got bigger and bigger through its 23 editions, bringing new publishing releases, film marathons and collector’s items to the city, alongside film screenings and even gastronomy-related activities.
The main event at the fair has always been the display area that is crammed with different stands offering the latest DVDs, comics, books and illustrations from Japan. But the fair offers plenty more besides, everything from manga and anime workshops and a robotics area to cosplay workshops and Japanese pop music concerts and a programme of electronic music designed by the people behind the Sónar Festival.
