“Quick Draw”

Help us to produce a MEGA-GIF based on the simplest drawing

The workshop “Quick Draw” has been proposed based on the exhibition Draw_Raw_ Graphic Interchange Format 03_2018 produced by the students from the Degree in Fine Arts, and part of the GIF meaning as an acronym for Graphics Interchange Format, a format for compressing popular image files on the Internet due to its versatility.

The Workshop proposes the production of a participatory or collaborative animation by the attending public, based on synthesis drawings of the exhibited works.

The drawings are distributed in six tables of light and the public is invited to produce a drawing from the preceding one, or, what is the same, a frame from what is on the table of light chosen. These are placed on a bench in the centre of the exhibition space, which offers the participant the possibility of carrying out the drawing in front of the corresponding work, to reinterpret it, to do a version of it or to draw a picture inspired by it, including one free or spontaneous.

The students of Fine Arts are responsible for the dynamism and the carrying out of the Workshop during Sunday, October 28, within the edition of BIG DRAW'18, and will continue it on the successive Saturday afternoons while the exhibition remains open to public, expanding the radius of drawings in the exhibition environment and/or the museum.

The edition of the MEGA-GIF is given by the students themselves and will be presented in the same exhibition, on the day of its closure. The resulting animation becomes a participatory experimental process derived from the works that include the exhibition, its concept and finally, the term ends up giving meaning to the exhibition itself.

Participating artists and workshop leaders

This Workshop is a complememntary activity to the exhibition Draw_Raw_Graphic Interchange Format 03_ 2018, which is held in the Antiga Llibreria of the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya and which gathers together a selection of works produced in the Tallers de Creació, itinerari A2, from the Degree in Fine Arts from the University of Barcelona.

The teaching team responsible for the project Draw_Raw_Graphic Interchange Format (2016- in progress) and the Grup d'Innovació Docent since 2017 is made up of Lídia Górriz, Jordi Dalmau, Carlos M. Falgueras, Montserrat López Paéz and Mercè Ubalde. The team has been working since 2006 sharing various subjects and boosting artistic research projects linked to teaching. Among the latest ones it is worth highlighting the project Provisional [EntreReferents] (directed and coordinated by: Montse López, 2012- in progress), subsidised by the Department of Drawing (UB) and Projectes Germinals. El món, Barcelona, jo i Picasso (directed and coordinated by: Anna Guarro and Montse López, 2010-11,), subsidised by the same Department of Drawing (UB) and the Museu Picasso de Barcelona (MPB). Both researches have generated the production of ad-hoc work, exhibitions, publications and presentations in national and international congresses.
