The fight against sexist violence in the markets

Next Saturday, the Sagrada Família, Felip II, Sant Antoni and Sant Martí de Provençals markets will host events on the occasion of the World Day for the Elimination of Gender Violence (25N)

On 27 November, the Unitary Platform Against Gender Violence (PUCVG) launched a series of actions to raise awareness of gender-based violence in four municipal markets in Barcelona: Sagrada Família, Felipe II, Sant Antoni and Sant Martí de Provencals.

Under the motto “Let’s build neighborhoods free of masculinity”, the platform has organized, based on networking with the social, commercial and cultural entities of each neighborhood, the following activities:

Sagrada Família market
Awareness and revitalization action inviting the public to participate in the reflection
From 11.00 to 13.00 in C / Mallorca (Sales floor)

Sant Antoni market
Mural that will make visible a collection of messages from women and girls in the neighborhood about experiences of sexist violence lived
9.30am to 11.30am inside and outside the market on Tamarit Street

Sant Martí de Provençals market
Awareness action and information aimed at the public
From 10.00 to 13.00 in the lobby

Felip II market
Awareness-raising action through a small route that will go through 4 squares (Plaça de les Rats, Plaça Masadas, Plaça General Moragues and Plaça Jardins d’Elx) before ending in front of the Felipe II market
From 9.00 to 15.00

The set of actions focuses on the Municipal Markets as spaces of centrality in the neighborhoods, as they are built as the backbone of social, economic and cultural life. Markets are places where you not only buy, but also where you live.

The “Let’s build masculinity-free neighborhoods” is aimed at the general public and, in particular, people who go shopping in the market.

The event is held on November 27 as the day closest to November 25, World Day for the Elimination of Gender-Based Violence.

This Saturday, we take to the streets against sexist violence. Come to the market and participate!
