El Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (CCCB) organitza i produeix exposicions, debats, festivals, concerts, programa cicles de cinema, cursos, conferències, fomenta la creació a partir de les noves tecnologies i llenguatges, impulsa la investigació artística en àmbits com el multimèdia, potencia la recerca en el format expositiu, exporta les seves produccions a altres centres culturals, museus i entitats d'àmbit nacional i internacional, alhora que genera debat, pensament i reflexió al voltant de la ciutat i l'espai públic com també sobre els temes que vertebren l'actualitat.El CCCB és producte de la rehabilitació parcial del conjunt arquitectònic de la Casa Provincial de Caritat, antic establiment benèfic destinat a l´hospici, creat l´any 1802 i que va funcionar com a tal fins l´any 1957. El 1989 el Consorci format per la Diputació de Barcelona i l´Ajuntament de Barcelona aprova la creació del Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (CCCB), en el marc d´un projecte de rehabilitació del barri del Raval i dels seus edificis històrics amb la intenció d´ubicar-hi un complex de cultura contemporània.
