Special mesures Christmas 2019

Buses

There will be selected extra services on bus lines with routes through the city centre and other shopping hubs on busier days, including any public holidays on which shops are allowed to open.

Metro

The metro will be providing a continuous service on New Year’s Eve and will close at 2 am. the eve of Three Kings Day.

Once again the metro is your best option for avoiding the Christmas rush.

During the Christmas campaign people will be encouraged to walk or use public transport, to prevent traffic jams and reduce pollution. The public transport network will be beefed up, with shorter waiting times for overground and metro trains, buses and Generalitat trains.

The increased activity over the Christmas period means more journeys to the city's busier shopping and leisure areas. The City Council will be providing the public with the conditions they need for planning their journeys, using public transport, parking properly and, where possible, travelling on foot.

Traffic-light sequences will be adapted to the special requirements of the festive season, and the public will be informed of any traffic restrictions or measures adopted to control mobility in the city. The Guàrdia Urbana police force will run an operation to ease traffic circulation in the most crowded areas, with the aim of maintaining civic, orderly behaviour in the city's streets.

Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) has put together plans designed to help people get around during the festivities, focusing in particular on shopping areas, visits to family and friends, and recreational excursions.

Buses

There will be selected extra services on bus lines with routes through the city centre and other shopping hubs on the busiest days, including public holidays when shops are allowed to open. On 24 December, the last buses will set off from their departure points at 10 pm.

Metro

The metro will once again be the best-advised option for avoiding all the traffic expected for these Christmas dates.

On 24 December, Christmas Eve, the metro service will close at 11 pm, as normal on this date. On Christmas Day (25 December) the metro will close at 2 am. However, on Sant Esteve (Boxing Day - 26 December) and 1 January, the metro will be open until midnight.

On the night of New Year's Eve, spanning 31 December and 1 January, the metro service will run all night. The same applies on 5 January, the eve of Three Kings Day, as it is a Saturday. The eve of Three Kings Day the metro service will close at 2 am.

We all stand to gain if everyone collaborates!
