This Christmas, give non-sexist games and toys as presents

No more stereotypes

Toys do not have a gender. They are the tools children use for exploring, discovering and developing social and relational forms of behaviour and  attitudes.

Adopting the slogan, "Toys do not have a gender. Everyone can play", Barcelona City Council is continuing with its awareness campaign to promote games and toys that do not stereotype boys and girls.

The goal is to raise awareness among city residents of the responsibility that comes with buying toys, as it is through games that relationship patterns and models based on respect and equal opportunities can be conveyed.

The campaign encourages boys and girls to recognise their potential, show mutual respect and freely choose the toys they want to play with. That ensures the world for children is not restricted to certain roles, games and toys based on the sex they were born with.

Toys, then, do not have a gender. They are the tools children use for exploring, discovering and developing social and relational forms of behaviour and attitudes that will end up as part of the baggage they will carry as individuals. That is why we invite you to give presents bearing in mind the important role games and toys play in childhood development.
