Campus Raval (UB)

C Montalegre, 6

The University of Barcelona’s Humanities Campus is set in the centre of Barcelona, between Plaça de la Universitat and the MACBA area. A dynamic and lively place comprising the historical building – where the maths and philology faculties are located – and the new building in Raval, where classes in philosophy and geography are given.

A building for modern times

The University of Barcelona’s new building was officially opened in 2006, in the Raval neighbourhood, right next to the Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art  (MACBA) and the Barcelona Centre of Contemporary Culture (CCCB). On offer are degrees in geography, history, art history, anthropology, archaeology and philosophy, as well as degree classes, Master’s degrees and postgraduate and doctoral programmes. The building also houses the library, which holds all the bibliographic collections of the two faculties.

The Raval Campus’ strategic location represents an added value for members of the university community as it allows direct interaction with everything that goes on right in the heart of the city. The University of Barcelona campus is part of the Raval Cultural project, a collection of over three hundred cultural offerings from the neighbourhood.

An open and cosmopolitan university

The University of Barcelona, also known as “Universitat Central”, plays host to some sixty thousand students and more than 500 teachers. Its origins go back to the 15th century, when King Alfons the Magnanimous founded the Estudi General de Barcelona, the precursor to the current university. It has been teaching large numbers of students for decades who hailed from other domestic and foreign universities and are over on temporary stays to exchange experiences and knowledge
