Commerce and markets. Work starts now and is expected to finish at the end of 2020.

Work gets under way today to remodel the Mercat de Sant Andreu, in Plaça del Mercadal. The project has a budget of 7.9 million euros and will provide a boost for commerce in the local area. The building should be ready at the end of 2020.

A large glass structure will enable the 26 stalls and bar inside the new Mercat de Sant Andreu to be seen from the outside. The complete overhaul of the facilities will improve the way the building fits in with its surroundings in Plaça del Mercadal.

The new market will have two floors:

  • Ground floor of 1,240 square metres, to include the sales areas for fresh produce, with 21 businesses.
  • Basement of 1,218 square metres, with logistics areas for the market, storage and cold chambers, a waste module connecting with the ground floor, and other facilities.

The sales premises, in a perimeter building, will be distributed as follows:

  • Ground floor of 370 square metres, with 5 businesses selling non-foodstuffs.
  • Floors 1 and 2, each of 140 square metres, for offices and a function room.
