When you look at the cover of a novel and see that it has won an Ictineu or Ignotus Award, it probably awakens your interest. Not all good novels win awards, but most of those that do win a prize in a fantasy-genre festival later reach the bookshops with the recommendation of juries made up of people who know a lot about science fiction, fantasy and horror stories.

For example, CatCon, HipaCon, Worldcon and the Celsius Festival all have their own awards. And what about Festival 42? Yes, we do, too! The awards were held for the first time last year, and this year, on Friday 4 November, the prize designed by Tono Cristòfol will be awarded by two juries who decide on the best novels in Catalan and Spanish to have reached bookshops in recent months.

There will be prizes for the Best Original Work in Catalan, Best Original Work in Spanish, Best Work Translated into Catalan, Best Work Translated into Spanish, Best Classic Translated into Catalan, Best New Work of the Year in Catalan, Best New Work in Spanish and the 2022 Honorary awards. 

Furthermore, for the first time, this year's list of awards includes the Alba 42 Award for young-adult fantasy genres. The Alba Award has so far been awarded twice, in 2020 and 2021, Now it is being included in the 42 Awards, in the category of Best Young Adult Fantasy Book in Catalan.

The jury responsible for deciding the awards for books written in Catalan is made up of Daniel Genís, Miquel Codony, Raül Maigí and Karen Madrid. A second jury, formed by Leticia Lara, Cristina Jurado, Daniel Pérez and Sergi Viciana, will decide on the winning books in Spanish.

And remember, even if you are unable to visit Fabra i Coats, you can always watch the awards ceremony live, on Friday 4 November at 9 pm, and be among the first people to discover who has won the prizes, as the ceremony is being broadcast live on social media.
