A 42-MINUTE TRIBUTE TO DOUGLAS ADAMS
By now as you have probably already gathered, the Barcelona Fantasy Genres Festival, is called ‘Festival 42’ in homage to the Ultimate Question posed in the classic The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams. Beyond the implications of the question and the answer, which will surely be commented on here, the 42 minutes scheduled for this activity will serve to pay four personal tributes to the great Douglas Adams in two different ways: firstly, through the immoderate moderation of Adam Martín, scriptwriter and radio journalist who, as well as almost sharing a name with the writer from Cambridge only leaves aside his commitment to emotional and nutritional balance to consume works such as the highly-regarded Guide to the Galaxy. And secondly, with three guests who declare themselves fans of the creator of Marvin and the Babel fish (there are so many things to be discovered here, if you feel like it): his Catalan translator, Eduard Castanyo, an key figure in the genre who has just revised his text for the Guia galàctica per a autoestopistes (The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy) published by Laertes; writer and scriptwriter Iván Ledesma, who’s such a big fan of Adams that he fills his own works with secret names taken from reading his work, and writer, scriptwriter and producer Eva Navarro, who will show us that Adams’s readers not only do exist, but also have a lot to say about Life, the Universe and Everything.
Taking part:
Eduard Castanyo is one of the best known names when it comes to the translation of science fiction works into Catalan, both today and during the time he spent at Pleniluni. Laertes has just published his revised translation of Douglas Adams’s The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.
Iván Ledesma is a writer and scriptwriter, although he also creates soundtracks, role-play game editorials and even action hits such as the recent Xtremo for Netflix. In his latest novel, Negorith, there are more than a few nods to Douglas Adams.
Eva Navarro is a writer, scriptwriter and television and advertising producer who began her narrative career with El llanto de la comadreja. We don’t know what she thinks of the film version of the Guide…, but we very much hope she will tell us at this round table discussion.
Moderated by:
Adam Martín Skilton has been a radio broadcaster since 1992, although he has also worked in television, and has written both novels and books on health and nutrition. He is a secret fan of certain science-fiction works.
