CarterCon 1. In Carter’s company
Angela Carter was one of the most unclassifiable, exuberant authors of the 20th century. Subversive, imaginative, carnivalesque, sensual, baroque... Through her books, she transformed traditional stories, combined pop culture with philosophical thought and high culture, and reinvented the fairy tale from a lucid, monstrously free perspective. The first conversation in this small series at Festival 42 paying tribute to the author – taking over from the successful ShirleyCon held in previous years, guided by the writer and communicator Gemma Solsona – will focus on Carter’s life and career, as well as her links to fantasy literature, feminism and monstrosity. It will take place between scholars Astrid Lozano and Dolors Ortega, as well as fiction writer Lola Robles, all of whom are Carter experts and admirers. The round table will be moderated by the woman behind the tribute, Gemma Solsona. CarterCon includes two more events: Carter Cabaret, with Hermanas del Desorden, and the talk In the Bloody Chamber.
