Catalan mythology’s great creatures
Joan de l’Os, El Bocarrot, Els Minairons and La Pesanta are just some of the characters in Catalan mythology that have been passed down through the generations thanks to oral storytelling, and are now being reinterpreted by fantasy authors in their works. The curator and creator of the main exhibition in this 5th edition of the 42 Festival, illustrator Laia Baldevey, will talk to true devotees of Catalan mythology, which has provided them with an endless source of inspiration. Folklore expert Joan de Déu Prats has published some 15 books of legends and myths. Make-up artist and special effects expert David Martí, meanwhile, brought the beasts in Pan’s Labyrinth to life through his DDT SFX studio, winning him the Oscar for Best Makeup in 2007. They will be joined by Daniel Genís, who revisits the ‘deal with the Devil’ theme in El dimoni abans de nosaltres (Males Herbes).
