A future in which sea levels have rendered Europe unrecognisable and Atari and Tika are rebels among rebels. The real and technological dreams of a series of characters portrayed in the dark. The crimes both occulted and occult that a post-juvenile detective in New England is tasked with solving. The adventures in Madrid, Barcelona and the United States of a superhero reborn half a century after Franco’s regime. These are the four plotlines behind some of the best graphic novels of the season: the cyberpunk trilogy Noceà, by Barcelona’s Ricard Efa; Nocturnos [Nocturnal Ones] by Ojo Crítico Award-winner Laura Pérez from Valencia; Eisner Award-winning series Friday, by Ed Brubaker and Marcos Martín, with colours by Muntsa Vicente; and the five instalments of ¡García! by Santiago García and Luis Bustos, adapted for the screen in an HBO series. Once again prompted by Sergi Viciana, Efa, Pérez, Bustos and Martín will discuss the most fantastic elements of their creations, assess their works in the context of the current Catalan and Spanish comic scene, and cover topics such as the environment, technology, corporations, social policies and the secrets of privacy. There’s a lot to unpack here, but we’d expect no less from the Fantastic 42 Panel on Comics.
