Taking risks, playing and winning. Fantasy beyond its codes
The way a story is told can sometimes be as important as the plot itself, or even more so. Some authors are aware of this and choose daring formulas that shun convention, while always guaranteeing optimal literary quality. Journalist and writer Anabel Vélez will moderate this round table with Catalan authors known for experimenting and taking risks in their works, to great success. One of them is Isabel del Río, whose No albiro el bosc (Mai Més) is a powerful cocktail of folk horror, science fiction, fantasy and terror. Albert Pijuan, meanwhile, has created a puzzle with fanciful characters and plenty of humour in La Gran Substitució (Angle Editorial), with a view to reflecting on phenomena such as identity theft. Jordi Nopca also experiments with his characters in El futur és una petita flama (Proa), turning them into animals to tell a story of political corruption and fatherhood. Finally, Núria Perpinyà’s El cos invisible (La Magrana)replicates the journey in the Odyssey, but this time within the human body, striking the ideal balance between comedy and tragedy.
