Activities at Barcelona Libraries

  • Activitats paral·leles

The Barcelona Grec Festival comes to the city‘s libraries, offering readers book clubs focused on works relating to this year‘s programme, as well as a reading guide and a series of itineraries.

Book clubs

Would you like to read the novels that inspired some of the plays you can see at the Grec this year and analyse them in depth? Don‘t miss out on the book clubs for La plaça del Diamant, by Mercè Rodoreda, and El día del Watusi, by Francisco Casavella.

La plaça del Diamant

Date and time of the first session: Thursday, 1 June, at 6.30 pm
Library: Biblioteca Poble Sec - Francesc Boix
Date and time of the second session: Monday, 17 July, at 6 pm
Venue: Refugi 307 (Nou de la Rambla, 175)

Marina Porras will use the first session to introduce us to the figure of Mercè Rodoreda, in the context of history, her life and her work. Everyone attending the talk will have an opportunity to watch, at a later date, a general rehearsal of La plaça del Diamant, directed by Carlota Subirós.

You can register here.
In collaboration with: Refugi 307 and Grec Festival de Barcelona

Los juegos feroces-El día del Watusi, vol.1

Date and time of the first session: Wednesday, 7 June, at 6.30 pm
Library: Biblioteca Poble Sec - Francesc Boix
Date and time of the second session: Wednesday, 19 July, at 7 pm
Venue: Barcelona Zoo

Miqui Otero will use the first session to introduce us to this legendary novel of post-Francoist Barcelona and to the figure of an author of the calibre of Francisco Casavella. Everyone attending the talk will receive a discount code* for tickets to attend a performance of the play, directed by Iván Morales.

The second session will be held at Barcelona Zoo, where the novel’s central characters jump over walls to escape from the “Jerk”, preferring the lions’ den to facing one of the city’s most dangerous delinquents. Here we’ll be able to chat with the director, Iván Morales, and the specialist theatre critic, Nil Martí, about the novel and its stage adaptation.

*Requires prior registration. Until tickets sell out.

Dimonis

With Jordina Boix (Verdaguer Foundation)
Library Francesca Bonnemaison (Sant Pere Més Baix, 7)
Friday, 14 July, at 5 pm

In turn of the 19th-century Barcelona —shaken by anarchism, communism, Darwinism and spiritism— Mossèn Cinto Verdaguer attended various exorcism sessions in a Born neighbourhood apartment and jotted down everything he saw. In 2014, another poet, Enric Casasses, published an annotated edition of those texts entitled Dimonis [Demons], a volume of enormous value that gave Cabosanroque the inspiration to make an installation. We will discover these little-known episodes from Verdaguer’s life during a itinerary through the Born that will include a visit to the CCCB stage set Dimonis.Ex-orcismes i in-orcismes de Verdaguer [Verdaguer's Ex-orcisms and In-orcisms]. Cabosanroque Trilogy (II).
