Homer, Ilíada

Alessandro Baricco

The Italian writer Alessandro Baricco wanted to bring Homer’s Iliad closer to today’s audiences: he has simplified the original text, bringing in new ideas which help to make the plot easier to follow, changing the narrator’s voice for those of the main characters in the story, and the result is a recital which fascinated thousands of men and women in both Rome and Turin back in the autumn of 2004. Homer’s Iliad was meant to be recited in public, and Baricco manages to captivate the audience with a public reading which is both simple and dramatically intense.
