Mixed Program (Metamorphers, Echoes from a restless soul, Moto Perpetuo)

Virtuoso, complex, sophisticated: words that describe the dancing of the Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company, a prestigious German company that opens the Grec 2017 with three choreographies by its artistic director.

A company established between the German cities of Dresden and Frankfurt will be opening the festival with the choreographies of its director, Jacopo Godani, an artist who controls every aspect of his shows, from the choreographies to the wardrobe, and who combines the legacy of traditional dance with contemporary thinking. His is a new and vibrant choreographic language, based on virtuosity, and which therefore constantly challenges the performers from a physical point of view. In this production the idea of the trilogy is approached from both the choreographic and the musical perspective. The trilogy, made up of three abstract creations, begins with Metamorphers, a piece based on Béla Bártok’s String Quartet No. 4, one of the great pieces of twentieth-century chamber music, which, played live by the Swiss ensemble Kubus Quartett, merges the score with Godani’s choreography. In Echoes From a Restless Soul, Godani tackles two parts of Maurice Ravel’s triptych Gaspard de la Nuit. Godani’s choreography visits the soundscapes of Ondine and Le Gibet, played live by Ruslan Bezbrozh, a first-rate musician on the international scene who is also the pianist of the Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company. Finally, Moto Perpetuo will close the show, a piece of great physicality and mathematical precision which starts with a neoclassical matrix and evolves towards contemporary forms to the sound of the electronic rhythms of the group 48nord (Ulrich Müller and Siegfried Rössert).
The creator of choreographies for prestigious companies such as the Nederlands Dans Theater, the Royal Ballet Covent Garden and the Companyia Nacional de Dansa, Jacopo Godani has a special relationship with the company IT Dansa, which has contributed particularly to making his creations known to audiences in Barcelona.
