Nit de tango: Quinteto Real

Music, certainly, but also song and dance. All three ingredients of tango will be present at a very special evening that, once more this year, will fill the Teatre Grec with tango in all its form. The star of the show will be Quinteto Real, an ensemble founded in 1960 that has delighted fans of the genre every time they have performed live ever since. The band was the brainchild of Horacio Salgán, an exceptional musician and composer, that this year is one hundred years old. Salgán invented a successful formula by bringing together, in a single band, the duet he formed with Ubaldo de Lío and that formed by Enrique Francini and Rafael Ferro. They were joined by the bandoneonist Pedro Laurenz and went on to forge an outstanding musical reputation. Although with none of the original members, the band is still alive and kicking, infused with new life by their director, the pianist César Salgán, son of the founder. To celebrate Salgán’s centenary, then, the Quinteto will perform in Barcelona a repertoire featuring some of the most classical compositions in the history of the tango. The Quinteto Real, Latin Grammy nominees, will be accompanied by a guest vocalist, Marcelo Rey, and a truly exceptional dance duo (Pilar lvarez and Claudio Hoffman) that once again returns to the Montjuïc venue to regale us with a great celebration of tango.
