The city’s network of local theatres presents a series of staged readings of early-stage performance projects that are part of the Barcelona Grec Festival programme.

The collaboration between local theatres and the Grec Festival, which began in 2020 and has produced highly engaging performance projects, focuses on works in their early stages of development within Barcelona’s theatre scene. Each year, a cycle of staged readings is organised, selected from submissions received through a public call. Some of the readings brought to the stage go on to become full productions that are later featured in future editions of the Festival.

The call for staged readings is being repeated in this year’s edition of the Festival. Take note: some of the selected pieces may be developed into fully staged productions that you could see during the 2026 Barcelona Grec Festival or in future editions.

The readings of El Batec del Grec 2025 are:

A Refuge in the Sun
by Pol Sanuy and Jumon Erra - Sala Versus Glòries
Kai’s grandmother shares with him the diary of an ancestor who lived through the war, a sensitive person who rebelled against the conflict he was forced to live through. What he finds is a young man as lost and disenchanted as today’s youth. This is a celebration of life and of revolution made from the margins. The revolution will be queer —or it will not happen at all.
