HUMANHOOD
Vortex
Mercat de les Flors MAC - Sala Maria Aurèlia Capmany
July 2 and 3In nature, in fluid dynamics, and even... in the human psyche. In all these spaces and dimensions, you will find this spiral shape in perpetual motion, a vortex, or to put it more simply, the whirlpool that forms in your sink when you turn on the tap. It is no coincidence that this dance company, inspired by mysticism, focuses on this form of flow, both turbulent and serene. As scientist Nassim Haramein explains, everything in life is a vortex: from galaxies to atoms, including the evolution of consciousness towards singularity and the eye of a tornado. How can we humans adapt to the most complex and turbulent situations, develop resilience, and evolve amidst apparent chaos? What if a vortex acted as an enhancer and accelerator of our psychological and spiritual potential? In this vibrant and captivating piece, you will discover a pulsating universe where energy converges, as the dancers of HUMANHOOD move across the stage with precision and virtuosity, synchronising with a cinematic soundscape that resonates throughout the auditorium.
At the heart of the company are Júlia Robert and Rudi Cole, creators of a unique choreographic language that combines exquisite fluidity, interconnection, and rhythm. After a prolific career as dancers, they debuted as choreographers in 2016 with the duet ZERO, which won first prize at choreographic contests in Madrid and Hannover and was selected in 2018 for the Dance: Sampled programme at Sadler’s Wells in London. In 2019, they premiered their first group piece, Torus, at the Grec Festival in Barcelona, and were selected for Aerowaves, a platform for emerging European artists. Their latest production, ∞ {Infinit}, [Infinity], premiered at Mercat de les Flors in 2022 and completed an extensive tour, including the Venice Biennale and this year’s edition of the Dansa Metropolitana festival.
