La tempestat
William Shakespeare / La Perla 29
Teatre La Biblioteca
From June 25 to July 26Director Oriol Broggi, the heart and soul of La Perla 29 company, has always been drawn to this play, which he saw as a young man in a version directed by the great Peter Brook. The text and the apparent simplicity of the staging would leave a mark on Broggi, who is now returning to his roots with his company and, just as he did in King Lear (2008) and Hamlet (2009, 2021), embracing the essence and magic of theatre and acting. Sand, clouds, rays of light... Just a few elements are all that’s needed to re-experience Shakespeare’s greatest and most magical play, with fantastic and impossible images appearing before the eyes of those who want to see them. All in a history with love, revenge and plenty of magic, in addition to performances by Lluís Soler as Prospero alongside Xavier Boada, Babou Cham, Clara de Ramon, Eduard Paredes, Oriol Ruiz Coll and Ramon Vila. The translation of the text is courtesy of Jaume Coll Mariné, a musician who plays the bass and double bass (you may know him from the band Obeses) and is also an acclaimed poet from the Osona region.
Oriol Broggi, one of the most renowned theatre directors on the scene today, created La Perla 29 in 2002 and is in charge of programming at the Teatre La Biblioteca. In addition to bringing us Wajdi Mouawad’s theatre at its most intimate, Broggi is a veteran of the Barcelona Grec Festival, where he has staged Luces de bohemia [Bohemian Lights] (Grec 2022), Bodas de sangre [Blood Wedding] (Grec 2017) and the opening for the 2018 edition with El poema de Guilgamesh, rei d’Uruk [Epic of Gilgamesh, King of Uruk]. At the latest editions of the festival, he presented 28 i mig [28 And a Half] (2022) and Tots Ocells [All Birds] (2024).
