Arooj Aftab
Opening by Mar Pujol
In darkness, boundaries blur and new possibilities emerge: intimacy, desire, memory, revelation. It is within this space that the music of Arooj Aftab finds its natural home—a voice with the rare ability to suspend time and draw us into the depths of what is essential.
Night is Arooj Aftab’s native realm. Her voice moves gracefully through the shadows, like a guide illuminating the soul’s most intimate corners. In Night Reign, her fourth studio album, she invites us on an introspective journey through longing—through love and loss, through shadow and light. Drawing from jazz, South Asian classical music, and experimental elements, Aftab moves beyond—but never forgets—the pain of her Grammy-winning album Vulture Prince. With a sense of everyday wonder, she paints soundscapes that are as much places of mystery as they are of revelation—quiet sanctuaries where the soul is both exposed and renewed.
Mar Pujol, by contrast, transports us to a different kind of nocturnal landscape—closer, more familiar, yet equally evocative. Cançons de rebost, her debut album, is a collection of songs that feel like small moments preserved in time. Her music breathes with Mediterranean essence: the warmth of the earth, the gentle breeze of the woods, and the calm of the mountains. A fusion of folk and pop, her sound brings us back to our roots and to stillness—a gentle pause of beauty and calm amid the world’s noise.
Both Arooj Aftab and Mar Pujol share a musical approach where songs become sanctuaries—spaces to reconnect with the deepest parts of ourselves. A double evening that invites us into two unique, yet complementary worlds, where music becomes a meeting place, and a space for transformation.
