Love and ideals... with betrayal lurking beneath. A man and a woman relive their past in an emotional reunion after years of silence. Personal stories and political history intertwine on stage.
Violeta, Xavier, and Ramon were three young students when, in 1974, they travelled to Portugal just after the Carnation Revolution. Half a century later, Xavier arrives at Violeta’s house with a bouquet of carnations. Her husband, Ramon, has just passed away. This difficult encounter, following decades of secrets, grudges, and silences, will bring love and heartbreak, utopias, ambitions, and betrayals to the fore. The personal stories of these characters and the political history of the Iberian Peninsula loom large over the text, in which the Carnation Revolution is ever present, whether as a utopia, a refuge of hope, or an excuse to rediscover excitement and optimism for a shared future.
The production, starring the talented Silvia Marsó and Abel Folk, who also directs, is a prime example of pure theatre that uses dialogue to convey ideas and emotions.
The author, Emma Riverola, is a novelist, dramatist, and columnist. In addition to her novels and journalistic work, she made her debut as a playwright in 2020 with #Puertas Abiertas [Open Doors], a play set during the 2015 Paris attacks and also directed by Abel Folk.
