Veus al BARTS series
She was born in France but her roots are in the Comoro Islands. Barcelona was able to hear her live for the first time in 2017, in the Palau de la Música. She came here after attaining fame for the two albums she had released at that time (The shape of a broken hearth, 2011; and The wrong kind of war, 2016) and for composing and performing the soundtrack for Audrey Dana’s film Sous les jupes des filles [French Women; 2014]. The artist has so far explored soul, folk and blues, but now she is focusing on pop and, reminding us with her voice of the increasing role of women on the present-day African continent, she does a rather unusual review of pop songs, reinterpreting themes by artists such as Cat Stevens and Radiohead, as well as music from similar genres by artists such as Donna Summer and Bob Marley. She relives these great songs in a special way: with her fascinating voice accompanied by the music of eight cellos on stage. This makes for a performance and musical experience that involves symphonic orchestration, conducted by the artist, who is well known for her artistic perfectionism and ambition.
