Teatre Lliure Gràcia 10/07 - 13/07
La mala dicció completes the trilogy begun by La caiguda d’Amlet (o La caiguda de l’ac) (2007) and L’empestat (2015), the result of a personal rereading of Shakespeare's tragedies. The first was influenced by Hamlet and the second by The Tempest, while the latest instalment distorts Macbeth, moving to today’s world, not so much the theme of ambition for possessing power, but rather the way in which we are possessed by power.
We are under the effects of an enchantment that leaves us blinded by present-day capital —isthmus, between those on top and those below, between good and evil—. And, thanks to geography and an evident polarity, we have power and the illusion of freedom. And we have played with them: dominated by power and eternally dissatisfied, so much so that we have abused that power, and our innumerable crimes have taken the world to the brink of collapse.
Now that we are aware, we are experiencing regrets, and at night we have nightmares that wake us up. Once the natural world has been destroyed, all we have left is this world chock-a-block with language. We have been cursed because we have turned to addiction.
