Boris Gibé / Cie Les Choses de Rien
Plaça de Margarida Xirgu 05/07 - 16/07
Anyone looking for a unique audience experience should not miss this circus show that takes as its starting point deep reflections on concepts such as the void and the absolute, and uses the languages of circus and dance, in addition to a number of effects, to engage both the senses and the viewer’s unconscious. The audience enters a large cylindrical tent and sits on a rising spiral staircase. The central space, the void, is the stage across which the artist evolves. So is the ground, where a beach of black sand seems to swallow one of the performers. This is a bleak, metaphysical universe in which we’ll be shown what shadows contribute to light, what visible things are born of invisibility and how humankind, aware of its temporary condition, is tortured by its search for the absolute. All of this in three paintings (Le miroir, Le procès, Le sacrifice) that bring us face to face with the void and the infinite, nothingness and plenitude... Optical illusions, an almost cinematographic universe, impossible acrobatics, movement and images that exude poetry, a sound capable of altering the audience’s visual perceptions and lyrical, nostalgic music are highlights of this show.
The company Les Choses de Rien was founded in Paris in 2004 to produce Boris Gibé’s creations, in which contemporary circus meets choreographic writing. The company’s artistic language uses set design, sound, light, machinery and technology to craft shows that raise existential issues, question the human condition and that, by activating our senses and emotions, offer audiences new perspectives.
