He created his company in 2010 and has enjoyed a meteoric rise in the theatre, which has led to his co-directing the Centre Choréographique National de Grenoble (CCN2) with Rachid Ouramdane. Why does everyone who watches his shows fall in love with them? To understand that, you must see Yoann Bourgeois and his co-stars on stage and let yourself be seduced. He fuses dance and circus techniques, two of the disciplines in which he trained, and he seasons it all with live harp music. It is the soundtrack of a dream that, moment by moment, becomes a metaphor for life itself. Do you know what the point of suspension is? Well, it’s that moment when an object thrown into the air reaches the highest point in the parabola before starting to fall. You need to study this physics concept because it’s the real star of the show, in which falls (both physical and emotional) are strung together and are always the prelude to a new beginning. Choreographer, juggler and acrobat all rolled into one, Bourgeois recreates acrobacy based on concepts of imbalance and momentum, therefore turning a fall into a leap... the other way around!
Creator of shows such as Cavale, L'art de la fugue, Wu-Wei and Celui qui tombe, in Minuit Bourgeois continues his quest with the help of all sorts of apparatus and devices that enhance the phenomena of physics and place them at the service of the circus. The result is a dizzying show of unexpectedly harmonious movements and a poetry that goes straight to the heart while sketching a smile on our face.
