Play Dead
People Watching
Did you find life absurd? Then celebrate it anyway. That’s what this physical theatre company does, with clockwork movement and acrobatics.
Six multidisciplinary artists based in Montreal have created a collective based on acrobatic movement and physical theatre. Their profound, message-driven approach to contemporary circus doesn’t hesitate to draw on other artistic disciplines, such as cinema and photography. The result is productions such as Play Dead, which focuses on the human experience, and more specifically, the domestic universe. These artists don’t overlook the more embarrassing or perverse aspects of our personality. On the contrary, they seek out the absurdities of existence and celebrate them through dance and movement.
With the performers’ absolutely precise technique, you won’t be able to tear your eyes away from the show. This is circus, but it doesn’t need props or even words to make us smile and move us. The company’s playful exploration of the world of the absurd is, like the circus exercises themselves, a constant challenge where risk is always present.
