PICASSa

Museu Picasso de Barcelona

Creació i museus [Creation and Museums]

Graner, the Picasso Museum, and a renowned dancer transform the exhibition space of the art centre on Carrer de Montcada into one of this year’s highlights from the Creació i Museus  programme.

Inspired by Picasso’s visual ruptures, PICASSa explores disaffection, the imprint of the ephemeral, and the search for new forms of expression, in an exercise of decontextualisation and transformation of the museum space. Closely linked to Cubism, the piece invites us to rethink reality from multiple perspectives, establishing new relationships between body, imagination, and audience, in a creative journey beyond the conventional limits of theatre. The Picasso Museum in Barcelona becomes the channel connecting different scenes in a visual encyclopaedia that acts as a guide, leading both the artist and the audience through various creative landscapes, offering a starting point for a journey of self-exploration.

As the creator of this production, Lorena Nogal, born in Barcelona in 1984, is an artist and choreographer who trained as a dancer at the Institut del Teatre de Barcelona and began her career with the IT Dansa company. Since 2008, she has been a key figure on LA VERONAL’s artistic team, both as a choreographer and dancer, working closely with Marcos Morau. In 2024, she was awarded the National Dance Prize for Best Performer by the Spanish Ministry of Culture and received the Best Female Performer Award at the Spanish Academy of Performing Arts’ Talía Awards. In 2018, she founded HOTEL Col·lectiu Escènic with the goal of creating creative intersections that allow for the exploration of other creators’ worlds.

The creative factories and Barcelona's museums once again lead a shared experience. A series of museum and heritage spaces in the city become a stage for the residents of the city's artistic creation centers, who engage in dialogue through their proposals with the artistic, historical, or ethnographic collections preserved in each space.

A co-production by Graner, a centre for dance and performing arts creation, and the Picasso Museum, as part of the Barcelona Institute of Culture’s Creation and Museums programme.

In collaboration with the 2025 Barcelona Grec Festival and Festival Escena Patrimonio.

The activities of Creation and Museums are free, but a reservation will be required.
