The world is immersed in a change of era, shaped by the digital revolution, economic globalisation, scientific progress and the climate change. The Biennial of Thought invites the people of Barcelona to think about the future, paying special attention to the role of cities in a bid to find realistic and sustainable projects.

The Biennial of Thought will be a citywide event, filling up to forty public spaces, facilities and other places with over 85 activities. The main venues will be the Plaça de Joan Coromines, the CCCB, La Model, the Fabra i Coats, the Jardins d’Agustí Centelles, the Jardins del Doctor Pla i Armengol and Can Felipa.

In addition to these, the +Biennal programme involves a further 33 locations, with 42 organisations and projects offering 40 parallel activities.

Local, national and international voices to reflect on the future

The debates in the Biennial of Thought ‘Open City’ revolve around four main topics: democracy, the city, technology and the future. Under these four broad topics and the challenges posed in a changing paradigm, 174 experts from home and abroad will guide us through the reflective process.

Speakers include specialist voices from a broad range of fields of study, such as architecture, anthropology, philosophy, poetry, science and film. Prestigious names from their fields, such as Yayo Herrero, Santiago Alba Rico, Marina Garcés, Neil Gershenfeld and Sasha Costanza-Chock will all be providing their knowledge and experience.

Accessible and open Biennial

All the activities for the Biennial will be for audiences to attend in person, following all the safety measures and with limited capacities due to Covid-19. Because of this, tickets can be reserved from 2 October onwards at biennalciutatoberta.barcelona. Over eight thousand tickets will be available in all.

A dozen activities will also be streamed live on the Biennial of Thought website, with all talks and debates (with the exception of the +Biennal programme) to be recorded and available to watch on demand on the same website.

Reserving tickets

Ticket reservations must be made to attend activities at the Biennial. Tickets can be booked on the Biennial website.

• The event descriptions in the programme can be used to access the reservation system, which allows booking of one or two tickets per person, up to a maximum of six activities.
• Once the form is completed, the tickets can be downloaded from a confirmation email.
• If spectators are unable to attend an activity, the reservation must be cancelled so as to free up the tickets. Cancellations can be made from the link which appears in the confirmation email or from the activity description on the website, by clicking on “Cancel reservation”.
• Lost reservations can be recovered by accessing the activity description on the Biennial website and clicking on “Retrieve tickets”.
• Anybody going to an event with children needs to reserve tickets for children over the age of 2. Under-18s attending without their parents or legal guardian need authorisation.
