A coastline full of possibilities for sport
Barcelona is a city which faces the sea, particularly since the Olympic Games in 1992. That brings all sorts of benefits, one of them being the chance to enjoy beach sports in the city, which take on greater prominence in summer. Beach volleyball, sailing, rowing, stand-up paddle, open water swimming and many many more.
In this sense, the city has a facility which geared towards the beach and the sea. The Espai de Mar municipal sports facility (Pg. Marítim, 5) runs a highly varied programme of sports activities and offers various services linked with the city coastline.
At the same time, the City Council has created the Open Waters website, detailing open water swimming options in the city. The site outlines various itineraries and complementary activities along the Barcelona coastline, bringing the city’s inhabitants into more direct contact with the sea.
The Municipal Sailing Centre, next to the Port Olímpic, is another facility where every year people have the chance to discover sailing first-hand. Thousands of youngsters are familiar with the centre because of activities held there through the year, and particularly in the summer as part of the T’estiu Molt activity programme.
