A more sustainable Park Güell opens up to the neighbourhood

Park Güell re-opens on 1 July with full health measures in place and its capacity limited to 50% to avoid crowds building up. Throughout the summer, local residents will be able to access the park for free with the Gaudir Més, and also at certain times with the membership card for the library network. Two time slots have also been established for local residents to make exclusive use of the park to go walking or do sport, between 6 am and 9.30 am and from 8 pm to 11 pm.

The park resumes its usual activity, adapted to sustainability criteria to ensure measures on safety, hygiene and protection as the city returns to normal. As from Wednesday, 1 July, visitors will be able to access the monumental zone and enjoy the different cultural and musical events programmed throughout the summer.

Access and capacity

The capacity of the monumental area of the park will be controlled, the goal being to avoid crowds, enhance the experience of visitors and guarantee safety, protection and preservation measures for the park. Capacity will be 50%, with a maximum flow of 1,400 people per hour around an area of 12 hectares.

The main gate will be the only one of the nine access points to be used as an exit, with the others all used as entrances. Four of these will be for use by local residents only.

Free access for local people

Access will be free for Gaudir Més users and from time to time this summer it will also be possible to access the park for free with a memberships card for the library network operated by Barcelona Provincial Council. From the autumn onwards, a mobile app will be available to make it easier to sign up to the Gaudir Més programme.

Time slots for sports

Local residents will get exclusive access to the park to go walking or do exercise during two time periods: one in the morning, from 6 am to 9.30 am, and one in the evening, from 8 pm to 11 pm.

Culture and music in the park

On Fridays in July there will be concerts, with limited places available, organised by the MUHBA, and on Thursdays in August the park will host concerts from the Music in the Parks cycle.
