A new bike lane opens in Carrer de Sants

A new section of segregated one-way bike lane is now open in Carrer de Sants, between the streets of Riera Blanca and Arizala. The lane provides continuity for the metropolitan cycling path linking Esplugues, L’Hospitalet de Llobregat and Barcelona via Carretera de Collblanc. The new lane includes separating elements, advanced sections for bikes at traffic lights, specific sets of lights and improvements to the traffic-light network.

Heading towards L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, the new infrastructure goes along the side lane nearest the mountains, using a specific segregated lane. The existing city-bound lane has been kept and is shared by buses, taxis and bikes. The work was also used to improve the traffic-light network.

The new lane comes in addition to those which have come into service in recent months, including the lanes in Av. Meridiana, the central section of Av. Diagonal and in front of the Faculty of Business Studies, plus the one in Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, the one in Ronda del Guinardó and the one in Carrer de Nàpols.

At the same time, work continues on the bike lane in Carrer Manso, between Comte Borrell and Av. Paral·lel, and also the bike lane which will connect Sant Andreu Sud and La Sagrera Sud with Sant Martí and L’Eixample.

A further 32.6 kilometres of bike lanes are being built, with improvements also being made to 11.7 kilometres of existing lanes. The goal is to achieve a network of 272.6 kilometres in 2023. The main work entails enlarging and improving the current network of bike lanes, shifting them from pavements into road surfaces, helping to make the network more permeable and adding width to lanes.
