All the winners in the City of Barcelona Awards 2023

The City of Barcelona Awards 2023 have been given in recognition of people and collectives for their activity in various cultural, artistic and scientific spheres.

Barcelona City Council has been giving the annual City of Barcelona Awards since 1949 and there are currently fourteen categories.  This year’s awards correspond to work and projects carried out in 2023:

  • Performing arts: Joan Carreras, for his performance in Història d’un senglar (o alguna cosa de Ricard), by Gabriel Calderón
  • Visual arts: David Bestué, for the exhibition “Ciutat de sorra” at the Fabra i Coats Contemporary Art Centre
  • Digital culture and audiovisuals: Alteritats,by Alba Cros Pellisé and Nora Haddad Casadevall
  • Music: Montserrat Torrent
  • Literature in Catalan: Lo mig del món (Club Editor), by Roser Vernet
  • Translation in Catalan: Marta Pera, for the English to Catalan translation of Orlando (Viena Edicions), by Virginia Woolf
  • Literature in Spanish: Las niñas del naranjel (Random House), by Gabriela Cabezón Cámara
  • Essays, humanities and history of Barcelona: La historia de los vertebrados (Random House) / La història dels vertebrats (La Magrana), by Mar García Puig
  • Education: Institut Miquel Tarradell. This secondary school has consolidated a project combining the promotion of all the languages in its community with the learning and use of Catalan
  • Architecture, urban planning and design: the exhibition ” The new realist. Catalan and Balearic architecture from the 2008″, curated by Carme Ribas and Joan Roig and designed by Victòria Garriga. Special mention for the publication Visions by, by Saúl Baeza
  • Life sciences: Tomàs Marquès Bonet for developing an international consortium that has given rise to a series of works that have generated the genomes of over 50% of all primates
  • Experimental sciences and technology: Barcelona Supercomputing Center for the design of Mare Nostrum 5
  • Environmental and Earth sciences: Sandra Nogué for the work “Long-term trajectories of non-native vegetation on islands globally”
  • Popular and community culture: Festival Raval’s Project by the Fundació Tot Raval. Special mention for the project La Maafetada, by Cooperativa Abarka, for the occupancy of public space generated among citizens through a communal meal bringing together local people in the Parc de la Ciutadella
