Barcelona, through UCLG (the main world network of cities), promotes an international declaration of large cities on housing that received the support of the mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, after a meeting held with mayor Ada Colau in the City Council of London on July 3. The declaration urgently asks the states for more resources and powers to fight against gentrification, provide cities with more affordable housing and protect the rights of neighbors against abusive increases in the rental price.

Mayor Colau will meet on July 11 with the mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, and in parallel work is being done through UCLG to share this declaration with other major cities around the world, with the aim of transferring to the states the need for a global alliance to defend their demands. Ada Colau will present the declaration at the United Nations on July 16, at a summit of major cities with representatives of the member states of the world organization.
