More resources to regenerate the city’s sports sector

The socio-economic and health crisis caused by Covid-19 has also affected the sports sector, having an impact on sports clubs, entities, individuals and facilities alike. The Barcelona Institute of Sports has earmarked five million euros to help sports clubs, families and entities in the city.

The economic recovery plan is intended to have an impact in three areas: extraordinary help for sports clubs and entities, a boost for universal access to sport and the reestablishment of the economic balance at municipal sports facilities.

On one hand, the exceptional help for clubs and entities is aimed at non-profit sports associations in the city which have seen their liquidity affected through a lack of income from membership fees.

The subsidies are designed to help clubs and entities cover the costs of school sports competitions organised by the Barcelona School Sports Council (CEEB), the direct costs of competitions organised by sports federations, rents for sport facilities and the wages of technical staff working at them to direct, coordinate and facilitate activities.

Sport for all

On the other hand, the recovery plan will help ensure that all students get access to grassroots sport as it offers an opportunity for physical and mental health, social cohesion and education.

This year’s grant programme for children between the ages of 6 and 17 has benefitted over 13,000 people in the city.
