New boost for renewable energies

The City Council is to participate in the PRIMA project to create an integration and storage platform for renewable energies in Barcelona and help improve the competitiveness of the energy sector. The agreement means the Catalan Energy Research Institute (IREC) will get 300,000 euros to develop the project, which is in line with 2030 Agenda.

The funding guarantees that this green energy innovation lab, which is being backed to promote economic activity, will be located in the city. The lab will be housed in an industrial unit in the energy hub being developed in the Besòs area.

The PRIMA platform is to be an industrial testing and validation unit for technology, products and storage services for renewable energies in a real environment. The main goal of the project is to improve the competitiveness of the energy sector through R&D&I within the context of the New Green Deal.

The project ties in with the direct fulfilment of three of the goals for the 2030 Agenda: investment in clean and affordable energy sources; promotion of industry, innovation and the construction of infrastructures, and the inclusion of urgent measures to combat climate change and its effects.

The PRIMA platform will be designed and implemented in 2021. It is expected to be operative in 2022.
