Recent weeks have seen 480 people lose their lives making sea crossings to the Canary Islands. In order to draw attention to and denounce the critical situation of migrants crossing the Atlantic, Senegal, where many of the victims originate from, has declared a day of mourning. The City Council is participating and the municipal damask with a black ribbon will be hung from the balcony of the City Hall today, with flags to be flown at half-mast.
