The Canòdrom becomes a centre for digital and democratic innovation

The district of Sant Andreu is to get a reference facility in the city for digital technology and citizen participation. The centre will also facilitate activities for local people and organisations in the neighbourhood of El Congrés i els Indians. Housed in the former dog track building in La Meridiana, the first event at the new facility will be the second edition of the DecidimFest, from 18 to 20 November.

The new municipal facility starts operating in November and its activity will be based around:

  • Promotion of digital skills-acquisition training to favour digital inclusion and empower citizens in spheres such as privacy and safety on social media, the prevention of digital violence, and participation through tools such as the platform decidim.barcelona.
  • Collaboration agreements with research centres, universities and cultural centres to study matters such as critical artificial intelligence and data applied to participation.
  • Support for projects and initiatives in areas such as technology and gender, video games, open-source software and the development of the Decidim platform.
  • Promotion of participation and democratic innovation, facilitating and supporting the necessary technological tools for participatory processes.
  • Acting as a centre of reference for the neighbourhood of El Congrés i els Indians with a programme of activities, workshops and exhibitions for local people and other projects, such as the Open Stands programme and cultural initiatives for the new centre to become a meeting point for the neighbourhood.

Second edition of the DecidimFest

The first activity organised by the digital and democratic innovation centre will be the second edition of the DecidimFest, which is being held online from 18 to 20 November. The event offers three days of debate and reflection on emerging digital and democratic challenges, digital rights in the context of the current pandemic and the link between technology and gender. All the debates can be followed online at meta.decidim.org.
