Opening times at Barcelona’s cemeteries

  • On 1 November, citizen information and support offices will be open from 8 am to 5.30 pm. On 29 and 30 October and 5 and 6 November, these offices will be open from 8.30 am to 2.30 pm.
  • Cemeteries will be operating their usual opening hours, from 8 am to 6 pm.

Visitors to cemeteries are advised to plan ahead to guarantee privacy of visits and avoid build-ups of people, checking maps and attending in small groups and at staggered times.

Special services and activities

Citizens will find sales points for real flowers open at four cemeteries from 8 am to 6 pm:

  • Poblenou: from 22 October to 6 November
  • Sant Andreu: from 29 October to 6 November
  • Les Corts: 22 and 23 October (from 9 am to 5 pm), 29, 30 and 31 October and 1 November
  • Montjuïc: from 29 October to 1 November

There will also be a mass for the dead at two cemeteries on 1 November:

  • Poblenou, at 12 noon
  • Sarrià, at 12.30 pm

The cemetery in Les Corts will be offering its traditional night-time route with theatre elements on Thursday, 27 October, with different sessions between 7 pm and 10 pm. The activity lasts 75 minutes and is a unique opportunity to discover the tombs of some of the people laid to rest in the cemetery, as well as a fine occasion to appreciate the beauty of this spot at night. The route will be lit up with candles, with live music too.

There’s also a chance to visit the Collection of Funeral Carriages at Montjuïc Cemetery on 1 November, which is open from 10 am to 2 pm and offers a free guided tour at 12 noon. A virtual tour with an animated character will also be available.

All Saints’ Day, a centuries-old tradition

The tradition of All Saints’ Day originates from the Celtic festival of Samhein, which marks the start of the winter lethargy. Since then, various cultures have adapted and changed the rituals to the point where today’s celebration combines the act of remembrance with other festivities from around the world linked to worship and death, such as the Day of the Dead and Halloween.

In Barcelona, the city’s cemeteries are the main points where people gather for All Saints’ Day, hence the opening hours on 29, 30 and 31 October and 1, 7 and 8 November.

At the same time, TMB is bolstering its bus services which connect with cemeteries to make it easier for people to get to and from them from 24 October to 1 November.
