Barcelona Districte Cultural is back to fill the spring with culture from 10 February to 29 May. The cycle offers an extensive programme of 250 performances for forty shows, with theatre, music, circus and film.

Open to all audiences, the various performances are at 29 community centres and local facilities around the city’s ten districts. This year’s cycle offers the most ambitious programme to date, with 27 new shows plus a further 17 which were adjourned from the last two editions due to Covid-19. The programme also includes twenty shows exclusively for schoolchildren.

Broad range of shows for varied audiences

Organised by the Barcelona Institute of Culture, the cycle offers a programme aimed at a wide range of audiences, with shows for adult spectators and others for families (such as Molsa, by the Thomas Noone Dance company; Lazuz, by the Lazuz Company; Le Fumiste, by the Don Davel company, and Interferències, by Banda Street Groove).

At the same time, theatre shows cover a diverse array of topics, styles and aesthetics, with productions such as Els dies mentits and El pequeño poni (Sala Flyhard), El musical (Versió Definitiva), Amy (& the Orphans) (La Niña Bonita), Llibert Unplugged (Les Llibertàries) and Els reis de Shakespeare escriuen el discurs de Phillipe the Sixth (LAminimAL Teatre).

Women at the forefront in music

This year’s Barcelona Districte Cultural gives its backing to shows headed by women, with all musical acts in the cycle led by female artists: Queralt Lahoz, Alba Carmona, Clara Gispert, Anna Andreu, Maria La Blanco, Sara Terraza, La Chunga and Las Karamba. There are also some reprogrammed functions, such as the performance by Les Ketakalles, also fronted by two women.

All the shows are free. In line with the current health and safety measures, audience capacities at venues are reduced and spectators need to book in advance. See the full programme for Barcelona Districte Cultural here.
