Call for subsidies to help cultural venues pay the property tax extended

The application period for this year’s subsidies to help private and public cultural venues cover the costs of the property tax (IBI) opens on Thursday 9 July. The ceiling for the call will be 350,000 euros, of which 150,000 has been added via the municipal shock plan to provide support for the cultural network in response to the situation caused by the health crisis.

The purpose of the aid is to cut structural costs for private venues and provide support for the promotion of cultural activities in the city, partially offsetting their tax burden through the reduction of structural overheads.

The extra budget means the ceiling for subsidies can be increased to 10,500 euros in the categories of live arts, cultural commerce and cinemas with seven screens or less, and up to 7,500 euros for cinemas with more than seven screens. If the total amount of subsidies exceeds the overall amount allocated, payments will be reduced proportionally among all applicants until the available credit is used up.

Categories

There are three categories for subsidies:

  • Live arts. Includes venues for theatre, dance, circus and other live arts disciplines, as well as music halls. It also includes independent spaces for creation, and for artistic and cultural exhibition, understood as independent and multidisciplinary places providing support for production, research and artistic and cultural exhibition, and offering regular programmes of activities.
  • Cultural commerce. Includes establishments in the cultural sphere, such as art galleries, bookshops and other commerce of particular artistic or cultural importance for the city, understood as commerce with historical or heritage value for the city, and which promote cultural dissemination (B3).
  • Cinemas. This is divided into cinemas with seven screens or fewer, and cinemas with more than seven screens.

Aimed at

The call is aimed and legal and natural persons which manage establishments for exhibition or cultural commerce, as well as cinemas, including those with officially protected premises and those which are rented, and which pay their own property tax (IBI). Public and private entities which conduct their activity in public facilities for which they have been granted usage rights, licences or public rental conditions are exempt.
