21,500 Mercè posters shared out among the public

The positive reception and high demand for this year’s poster for La Mercè prompted two further print runs on top of the initial 1,500, one for an additional 15,000 units and a second one for a further 5,000, which members of the public could pick up at over thirty facilities in the city. In all, 21,500 posters of the design by the illustrator Malika Favre were shared out.

A specific website was set up with details on where posters were being given away, indicating the location, times and availability. The site was updated continuously with information on new collection points.

Malika Favre’s elegant and minimalist piece depicts a woman who stands tall as a powerful queen, with the solemnity of a Mediterranean statue, eyeing us defiantly and inviting us to join in with the celebrations. The image is full of details, references to the city and collusions with Barcelona’s residents.

Besides being able to pick up a copy of this poster, as with those from previous editions, it can also be downloaded and printed from the poster repository.

A retrospective exhibition is also on at the Casa dels Entremesos until 26 November, featuring photos and over seventy posters, some of them a hundred years old or more.
